Prof Verghis Chandy Memorial Lecture Series 2025

Prof. Verghis Chandy is a renowned educationalist whose contributions to the field of education are held in high esteem across the world. He was born on 17 February 1936. He completed his Master's degree in education from the University of Aberdeen. As a lecturer, he joined Peet Memorial Training College in 1961 and served as the institution's principal from 1986 to 1996. He was also the secretary of the All Kerala Training College Principal's Association. Prof. Verghis Chandy is also the author of several books on English language teaching and social psychology. The Memorial Lecture Series is organized in memory of this great visionary educator who transformed and touched hundreds of lives through his illuminating words and inspiring deeds.

The Peet Memorial Training College Mavelikara organized Prof Verghis Chandy Memorial Lecture Series 2025, which was organized and held on March 18, 2025, at the College Auditorium at 10 a.m. The program was started with the prayer song. Dr. Sony Mary Varghese (Assistant Professor, Peet Memorial Training College Mavelikara) welcomed the guests and delegates of the session. Dr Alie Molly Verghis (Principal, Peet Memorial Training College Mavelikara) presided over the session. Prof. Thomas Uzhavathu (former faculty, Peet Memorial Training College Mavelikara) made a tribute speech about Prof. Verghis Chandy. Dr. Mumtas S. (Assistant Professor, Peet Memorial Training College Mavelikara) introduced the speaker of the session. Prof. Dr T Mohamed Saleem (Principal of Ferook Training College Calicut and the Member Convenor, Integrated Teacher Education Programme Committee appointed by Kerala Higher Education Council) inaugurated the session and delivered a keynote speech. Sri Tony Cherian, Lecture Convenor and Librarian, Peet Memorial Training College Mavelikara, remarked a vote of thanks for the session. 

The second session was started on the topic " Transforming Teacher Education in India in tune with NEP 2020." The session started with the welcome speech by Dr Renjany K.R. (Assistant Professor, Peet Memorial Training College Mavelikara). The session, handled by Prof. Dr. T. Mohamed Saleem, discussed the present and future dynamics of teacher education in Kerala through the lens of NEP 2020 and the ITEP. Prof Anna Chandy, a former professor and the Head of the Department at Bishop Moore College Mavelikara and the wife of Prof. Verghis Chandy, honoured the speaker by awarding the memento and the certificate on the token of love and gratitude. Dr. Elizbeth Joshua (Assistant Professor, Peet Memorial Training College Mavelikara) remarked a vote of thanks for the whole session. Around 80 delegates attended this session, including faculties and student teachers (both UG and PG) from various training colleges and teacher training institutions in different parts of the state. The lunch was provided for the delegates after the session.
