MAVELIKARA SUB DISTRICT SCIENCE FAIR 2025

The School Shasthrolsavam at the Mavelikara Sub District level was held on October 9 and 10, 2025, at the Bishop Hodges Higher Secondary School, Chennithala. The Kerala State School Sasthrolsavam (Science Fair) is an annual mega-event organised by the State Education Department of Kerala. It is considered the largest science fair for students in the Asia region, aimed at nurturing the talents of students from Lower Primary to vocational higher secondary levels. Sasthrolsavam is a combination of five main competitive fairs.

  1. Science Fair (Sasthramela): Focuses on scientific aptitude, innovativeness, and creativity, including categories like Working Model, Still Model, Improvised Experiments, and Research Type Projects.

  2. Maths Fair (Ganitha Shasthramela): Includes competitions like number charts, geometrical charts, models, puzzles, and games.

  3. Social Science Fair (Samuhiya Sasthramela): Features events like collections, models, quizzes, and the preparation of a local history.

  4. Work Experience Fair (Pravrithi Parichaya Mela): Focuses on evaluating students' work experience, knowledge, and practical application, including live competitions and displays of various crafts and products.

  5. IT Fair (IT Mela): A platform for students to showcase their talents in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), with competitions like IT Quiz, Digital Painting, and Malayalam Typing.

The organisation of the school shastrolsavam was conducted from the School level, sub-district level, District level and the State level. The main objective of Sasthramela is to nurture the talents of students in science, mathematics, and other subjects by providing a platform for them to showcase projects and innovations in a competitive environment. It aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and a passion for science and technology, with the ultimate goal of developing young people to benefit society as a whole. 
  • Nurture student talent: 
    It provides a venue for students from various educational levels to demonstrate their abilities in science, math, social science, work experience, and IT. 
  • Promote scientific temper: 
    The event encourages students to develop a scientific attitude, think critically, and find solutions to real-world problems. 
  • Encourage innovation: 
    It serves as a platform for students to present their projects, innovations, and research in a competitive yet supportive setting. 
  • Foster learning beyond the curriculum: 
    The fair inspires students to engage with subjects beyond what is covered in their regular schoolwork. 


The School Shastraolsavam started at 09:00 pm, and the inaugural meeting was held at the Mini Conference Hall of the School. Many school students prepared many items on various categories related to the Shasthrolsavam from various schools in the Mavelikara Sub-District.

Many teacher trainees assisted the School Shastrolsavam activities as the organisers, invigilators, escorting teachers, etc. Many students, teachers, parents and the public attended the Shastrolsavam. The programme ended on October 10,2025.
